2017-2018 Executive Team

President – Candice Ying Woei Ooi

​

Candice is a fourth-year geology student at UofT. With her position, she would like to outreach professionals to offer more networking opportunities for her peers in the department. She is currently doing an undergraduate thesis with Dr. Mike Hamilton. Last summer, she was a research intern at the Center for Global Change Science (CGCS) processing satellite images to study the phenology of plants. She is interested in economic geology, GIS, geochronology, and geochemistry.

Vice President – Thea Myrskog

​

Thea Myrskog is a fourth year student at the University of Toronto, specializing in Geology and minoring in Geographic Information Systems, with a particular interest in ore deposit models. Last year she served as the Events Coordinator for WIM U of T, and has previously served on the executive teams of Women in Science and Engineering, the Undergraduate Earth Sciences Society, and Enactus U of T. As Vice-President of WIM U of T, she hopes to continue to provide engaging talks and networking opportunities for her fellow undergraduates. She hopes to pursue a career as an exploration geologist once she graduates.

Treasurer – Holly Kuzmyn

​

Holly Kuzmyn is in her final year of the Geology Specialist program at the University of Toronto. She has previously served on the boards of WIM U of T and the Undergraduate Earth Sciences Assocation in the positions of secretary and communications representative. She is interested in economic geology as well as mineralogy, and is hoping to complete an undergraduate research project this year.

Events Coordinator – Colleen Elizabeth Metcalf

​

Colleen is a 3rd year geology student at the University of Toronto. In addition to WIM, she works part time, and is working on a directed studies project in earth sciences. Last summer, she worked for the Creed lab at the University of Western Ontario.

 

 

 

 

Communications Representative – Stephanie Chen

​

Stephanie Chen is a third year geology student at the University of Toronto. She is specializing in Geology and majoring in Physical Geography. She has done field courses in Iceland, Scotland, and central Ontario, and is interested in metamorphic petrology. She hopes to attend graduate school after completing her undergraduate studies

Mineral Engineering Representative – Aurora Zhang

​

Aurora is a third year Mineral Engineering student at the University of Toronto with an interest in mineralogy and mineral processing. In the 2017-2018 academic year, Aurora hopes learn more about resource industries and to get more involved with extracurriculars. As WIM U of T's engineering representative, Aurora wishes to introduce engineering students to the larger school wide community and to help diversify the mining industry. Outside of school, Aurora enjoys reading, dancing, and looking at shiny rocks.

Past Chair – Danielle Shirriff

​

Danielle is a masters student at Laurentian university. She is currently working on better understanding a nickel deposit for the Metal Earth project. She has worked as a geologist for Agnico Eagle Mines, as well worked as a co-op student at the City of Barrie with Golder Associates. She hopes these experiences will help her to assist the club in any way needed.

Website Coordinator – Nathan Stoikopoulos

​

Nathan is a third year geophysics student at  the University of Toronto, with a particular interest in computer science applications. This summer he will be conducting field work on an archaeological site in Mexico and assisting research in analogue structural modelling under an NSERC grant.
