President – Karli Stevenson

​

Karli Stevenson (she/her) is the Chair of the Women in Mining Student Chapter at the University of Toronto. She is a fourth-year Geophysics specialist interested in using geophysical methods to drive innovation in mineral exploration. Karli is deeply committed to uplifting women in STEM by creating opportunities for students to connect with the industry, and to be encouraged and empowered by its many inspiring female leaders.

Vice President – Caroline Bissonette

​​

​Caroline Bissonette is the Vice-Chair of the Women in Mining Student Chapter at the University of Toronto. She is a fourth-year Rotman Commerce student specializing in Finance and Economics with a minor in Geoscience. Driven by her interest in the intersection of mining and finance, Caroline has completed internships in Strategic Business Planning and Financial Reporting within the mining industry. She is committed to promoting education, opportunities, and career development for students interested in the mining sector.

Treasurer – Brook Clinton

​Brook Clinton is a fourth year undergraduate student in the Geophysics Specialist with an Environmental Studies Minor. She is interested in the use of geophysical methods for mineral exploration and sustainable practices in mining. As the treasurer for WIM this year she aims to create a comprehensive budget that supports a variety of events.​

Secretary – Sarah Neal

​

​Sarah is a third-year student pursuing a Geology Specialist and a minor in GIS. She is passionate about hydrogeology and promoting sustainable practices in the mining industry. As the secretary for WIM, Sarah aims to increase diversity in the geosciences by introducing more students to the field and showcasing the wide array of career opportunities it offers.

Industry Liaison – Giselle Parsod

​​

​Inspired by a lifelong curiosity about our planet, Giselle majors in geoscience and Earth and environmental systems. After her degree, she hopes to apply her knowledge in a role that helps protect the environment as we shift away from fossil fuels toward renewable energy. In her spare time, Giselle likes to read and travel to new places – especially where she might find a volcano!

Event Coordinator – Sophia Missikowski

​Sophia Missikowski is the Events Coordinator for the Women in Mining Student Chapter at the University of Toronto. She is a third-year Geoscience major and Materials Science specialist. Sophia is invested in building a strong network for women in STEM and promoting opportunities for women in the mining industry. As Events Coordinator, she is committed to fostering student engagement with industry professionals through seminars, networking events, learning and experiential opportunities.

Graduate Student Representative – Calise Moldawa

​​​

​Calise is a graduate student in the Department of Earth Science. She is interested in computational seismology, geophysical methods for mineral, environmental and renewable energy exploration. Calise is taking on the graduate student representative position for WIM this year, and is excited to both learn more, spread appreciation, and make valuable connections in the mining industry!

Communications Representative – Zara Graham

Zara Graham is the Communications Representative for the Women in Mining Student Chapter at the University of Toronto. She is a third-year undergraduate student specializing in Geophysics and minoring in GIS. Zara is passionate about building community within the chapter and helping connect students with inspiring WIM guest speakers, industry professionals, and networking opportunities.​

Earth Science Representative – Victoria Smolianova​

Victoria Smolianova (she/her) is the Earth Sciences representative for Women in Mining - University of Toronto Chapter. She is a third year double major in geoscience and earth and environmental systems. Victoria has a strong interest in the global integration and innovation of sustainable methods. She is passionate about involving more women in STEM, creating a space that promotes learning, innovation, and leadership, giving women a safe and inclusive space to learn and grow.

Mineral Engineering Representative – Lucianna Paventi​

Lucianna (Lucy) Paventi (she/her) is the Mineral Engineering Representative for the Women in Mining – University of Toronto Chapter. She is a second-year Mineral Engineering student with a growing interest in mineral processing. Lucy is passionate about fostering a more inclusive mining and engineering community by supporting women’s involvement, collaboration, and leadership across the industry.

Social Coordinator – Jessica Tomacic​

​

Jessica Tomacic (she/her) is the Social Coordinator for the Women in Mining–University of Toronto Chapter. She is a M.Sc. student in Earth Science studying the first occurrence of garnet within martian meteorites in collaboration with the Royal Ontario Museum. Previously she has worked for the Geological Survey of Canada to support critical minerals research and has facilitated programs teaching youth about the Earth Sciences with Mining Matters. In her spare time, she loves to create vibrant nature-inspired paintings, travel, and read. Jessica hopes to create an inclusive environment that fosters community amongst peers by coordinating social events.

Website Coordinator – Lyana Shaharizan​

​

Lyana Shaharizan is a third-year undergraduate student at the University of Toronto, pursuing a Geophysics Specialist, a Physics Major, and a Computer Science Minor. Her interests include near-surface exploration using geophysical methods and oil & gas exploration. She is also keen on applying machine learning to geophysics and advancing the future of the field. Lyana is dedicated to be involved in the women empowering community.

Faculty Advisor – Melissa Anderson

​

Melissa Anderson is an assistant professor of economic geology at the University of Toronto. Her work focuses on understanding how geodynamic processes in subduction zones control upper crustal permeability and the formation of long-lived magmatic-hydrothermal systems. She is passionate about mentoring students as they explore career paths in exploration, mining, and related industries, with an emphasis on addressing challenges facing women and minorities in these fields.
