President – Zeynep Uzunel

​

Zeynep Uzunel (she/her) is the Chair of the Women in Mining Student Chapter at the University of Toronto. She is a fourth-year geology specialist with a passion for petrology and geochemistry, who wants to explore the physical world through science. Likewise, she wants to challenge the barriers pertaining to diversity, equity and inclusion to share her passion for earth sciences with everyone. As chair of Women in Mining UofT, she aims to inform students about diverse careers in geosciences and continue the discussion of how we can help combat inequalities in a male-dominated workforce.

Vice President – Eve Carrothers

​

Eve is the vice-chair for the Women in Mining UofT chapter this year. She is a 5th year undergraduate pursuing a specialist in geology and major in earth & environmental systems. After spending the past two summers doing field work in Northern BC, she became enthralled by the adventure, hands-on learning, and unique experiences that economic geology has to offer. She is passionate about the mining industry and supporting its diversity and inclusivity through WIM.

Mineral Engineering Representative & Communications Representative – Iyesha Rupasinha Arachchige

Iyesha Rupasinha Arachchige is a third year Mineral Engineering student + PEY pursuing a double minor in Engineering Business and Environmental Engineering. Iyesha is very excited to be the Communication Representative and Mineral Engineering Representative for WIM this year. Fun fact: Iyesha really enjoys listening to music and loves going to concerts! Iyesha looks forward to working with everyone in WIM!

Treasurer – Nicole Schoenherr

Nicole Schoenherr is the treasurer of the UofT WIM Chapter. She is a second-year Geology Specialist student who is interested in planetary science, mineral exploration, and habitat restoration. She aspires to reach for the stars and loves to discuss the development, growth, and possibly new applications of the mining sector in the future.

Earth Science Representative – Clémence Korwin-Szymanowska​

Clemence Korwin-Szymanowska is the Earth Science Representative of the Women in Mining Student Chapter at the University of Toronto. She is in her fourth year pursuing a geology specialist and political science minor. She is passionate about exploration, sustainability in geology and international relations.

Rotman Commerce Representative – Caroline Bissonette

Caroline Bissonette is the Rotman Commerce Rep. of the Women In Mining Chapter at the University of Toronto. She is in her second year of study in Rotman Commerce specializing in Finance and Economics with a minor in Geoscience. Caroline is interested in macroeconomics, geology, and promoting sustainability, equity, and and responsibility in mining.

Website Coordinator – Karli Stevenson

Karli Stevenson is a second-year undergraduate student at the University of Toronto pursuing the Geophysics Specialist program with a GIS Minor. She is interested in geophysical methods for mineral exploration. She is passionate about science and using geophysics to better understand the world. She hopes to provide an inclusive and accessible platform as WIM's website coordinator.

Faculty Advisor – Melissa Anderson

​

Melissa Anderson is an assistant professor of economic geology at the University of Toronto. Her work focuses on understanding how geodynamic processes in subduction zones control upper crustal permeability and the formation of long-lived magmatic-hydrothermal systems. She is passionate about mentoring students as they explore career paths in exploration, mining, and related industries, with an emphasis on addressing challenges facing women and minorities in these fields.
