Summer Internship Opportunities Talk

On January 18, 2024, WIM hosted the Summer Internship Opportunities Talk, where four students in the department talked about the internships they have obtained in the field during their past summers. They discussed how they got their respective positions and gave tips for how other students could get similar opportunities. They also talked about their experiences; where they went, what their responsibilities were, the facilities they lived in, and any other fun stories. Afterwards, Selina Wu did a short presentation on working in the industry and how to get the experiences you want.

Eve Carrothers

Eve talked about her extraordinary experience working in remote locations in Northern BC. She has spent her last two summers working with various professionals in the Earth Sciences, learning diverse techniques for working in the field.

Matt Dunkerley

Matt talked about his field experience from the summer of 2023, when he went to the East coast to look for lithium pegmatite. He spent the summer traveling to various regions with a small group of experts.

Jen Cann

Jen talked about her experience working in the field with the Ontario Geological Survey. She described her experiences from the summer 2024 and the opportunities she had to see and understand various geologic features across the province.

Clemence Korwin-Szymanowska

Clemence worked last summer with a private mining company in gold exploration. She talked about her experiences working in this environment and gained hands-on experience by learning various geologic techniques.

Selena Wu

Selina discussed her previous experiences working in the field and the industry in general. She also gave advice on how to obtain the summer internship you want, and how to boost your resume by also including  necessary non-geology related skills.
