A series of monthly guest speaker seminars aimed towards introducing students to the various sectors within the mining industry.

February Sector: Mine Rehabilitation and Reclamation

Come out for our February industry speaker seminar, where mining industry professional Alex Hood will discuss her experiences in mine rehabilitation and reclamation, and provide tips for students interested in pursuing a similar career path.

About the Speaker

Alex Hood

Alex Hood has spent her career in mining, predominantly in site based roles, leading permitting and environment projects across Canada. In her current mining role, as the Director of Mine Rehabilitation and Reclamation for Agnico Eagle Mining (AEM), Alex works closely with global Indigenous and Affected Parties and government stakeholders across the AEM sites to balance their needs with the economic needs of industry in the Mine Closure and Legacy Site space. Ms. Hood holds a Masters of Sciences through the Royal Roads University, a Bachelors Degree in Environmental Science through the University of Waterloo, and a Project Management Professional designation.

November Sector: Exploration and Production Geology

Come out for our November speaker seminar, where UofT alumni and geoscience industry professional Danica Pascua will speak about her experiences working in exploration and production geology! She will be discussing her career, education, and the challenges she has faced working in her sector of the mining industry.

About the Speaker

Danica Pascua is an Underground Production Geologist with nearly 10 years of experience, currently working up north in Nunavut at Agnico Eagle's Meliadine Gold Mine. She has worked all over Canada in 6 different gold and copper mining operations in Northern Ontario, Northern Québec, the Yukon and Nunavut. She graduated with a bachelor’s degree in Geology from the University of Toronto and is fluent in 5 languages, plus conversational in Russian.
